Yuko Shimizu’s illustrations have been published in everything from The Atlantic to Playboy. She is so prolific, in fact, that her web presence couldn’t keep up with the pace of her work.

While Yuko got to work sorting through her archives, we built the architecture behind a sleek new site. Tripling the size of images so that fans (and clients) could appreciate the detail and process in over 300 unique illustrations.

Since so much of Yuko’s work appears in beautiful, glossy magazines, we wanted to bring the same kind of experience to her website. The homepage highlights a random piece selected from Yuko’s featured works.

Yuko’s illustrations are as beautiful on handheld devices as they are on the screen. We gave her fans an optimized experience on mobile that focused more on browsing than searching, but promoted a quick view of upcoming shows and events.

The CFDA

Our offices may be in a perpetual state of “Casual Friday” but when the Council of Fashion Designers of America paid a visit, it wasn’t our vintage Ts, intentionally messy hair or spacey glasses being discussed. The CFDA needed our help. With only two months until the 50th CFDA Fashion Awards, we designed, developed and launched a site worthy of its members support.

We already knew the impact of the CFDA on American fashion and wanted to make sure that their home page reflected that same bold approach. We let the page lead with giant images, knowing that the Council had access to some of the best fashion and event photographers out there.

Making sure to deliver an optimized mobile experience, we scaled down images for quick content browsing.

But then expanded those photos up to maximum device size when a user got into the gallery, blog post, or member profile they were looking for.

Thompson Hotels

We have an antique phone in our office. It reminds us that people used to talk without typing. And maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing.

Social media can be surprisingly impersonal. It should be more like a real conversation between real people about real things. Thompson Hotels already mixes new technology with old-fashioned hospitality in their hotels. And as their social media AOR, we wanted to help them continue that practice in the digital space.

We redesigned the Thompson Room 100 newsletter to evoke a more editorial feel, more in line with the Thompson brand. After the redesign, open rates went up 57% and revenue from the newsletter went up a whopping 3017%, bam!

The Thompson Hotels Facebook pages are more than a place to have conversations with fans. We built out tabs that allow visitors to explore each of the properties and book rooms right through Facebook.

Who doesn’t love cats and dogs (and horses and turtles and interns)? We pitched the Nulo team when their name was still TBD and we turned the unknown into something special. Our brand positioning and creative process all played a part in winning the account and seeing our ideas come to life.

To us, keeping things simple and vibrant made the work look even classier than a cat eating off a fork.

Cardigans are classic, everyone owns one (or has at some point) and they’re not just for Mr. Rogers and the ironic hipster set, anymore. Cardigans made by Lynne Hiriak are warm and fuzzy, just like Lynne. So when she asked us to create a rock solid e-commerce shop we were all for it. AND when you have the pleasure of working with Lynne, it’s not just about building some website. She has a knack for bringing people together (in fact the models are people Lynne knows and man, she knows a lot of attractive people.) and we like this. The resulting product complements Lynne’s vision and values without losing sight of her business goals.

Sideways knows fashion almost as well as we know digital. Give us your brand and we’ll teach it to strut.
